Rome Singled Out Medjugorje For Honor

by Jakob Marchner

As the only non-recognized Marian sanctuary and place of apparitions, Medjugorje was invited to send representatives for the Marian Day of Prayer and Pope Francis’ consecration of the world on October 12-13. Despite the unofficial status, the Medjugorje group got front row seats.

Medjugorje was treated like no other place when the Vatican arranged and sent out invitations for last weekend’s Marian Day of Prayer and Pope Francis’ consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The representatives from Medjugorje were invited to be present though Medjugorje is still not offically recognized, neither as a shrine, nor as a place of apparitions. This did not happen to representatives from any other such place. Furthermore, the group were seated very close to the Pope on both days.

“It is noteworthy that among the Marian shrines officially recognized, like Fatima, Lourdes, Banneux, Guadalupe, etc., the Pope also wished for the presence of the representatives of Medjugorje! In fact, Medjugorje was the only Marian shrine unrecognized (or “not yet recognized”) among all these shrines with a glorious past!” the Medjugorje-based nun Sr. Emmanuel Maillard writes in the October bulletin of her organization, Children of Medjugorje.

“Besides, according to Ivan Ivankovic – in prison with (then parish priest, ed.) Father Jozo in 1981 for having said that he had seen the Cross dance on Cross Mountain – the small group was surprised to have been offered choice seats in St Peter’s Square for both days. Indeed, our friends got some of the best places, behind the bishops and cardinals, quite close to the Pope” Sr. Emmanuel reports.
