Spring begins!

Dear Family of Mary!

Dear children! As a mother, I desire to be of help to you. With my motherly love, I desire to help you to open your heart and to put my Son in the first place in it. Through your love for my Son and through your prayer, I desire for God's light to illuminate you and God's mercy to fill you. In this way, I desire for the darkness, and the shadow of death which wants to encompass and mislead you, to be driven away. I desire for you to feel the joy of the blessing of God's promise. You, children of man, you are God's children - you are my children. Therefore, my children, set out on the ways on which my love leads you, teaches you humility and wisdom, and finds the way to the Heavenly Father. Pray with me for those who do not accept me and do not follow me - those who, because of hardness of their hearts, cannot feel the joy of humility, devotion, peace and love - the joy of my Son. Pray that your shepherds, with their blessed hands, may always give you the joy of God's blessing. Thank you. (March 18, 2014)

Our Lady has given us a beautiful message! It is full of spiritual wisdom and guidance. We will have much to pray over in this message in the days ahead. But for today, I would like to let Our Lady's words simmer within our hearts, and instead share the first part of the transcript of Mirjana's talk, available in "Fruit of Medjugorje" - Episode 106. Mirjana spoke in English!! She shared from her heart, with deep conviction, about what she has learned from Our Lady over the years. Here is part 1:

I want to say hello to everybody. I will try to speak in English! I have Miki next to me and he will help me. I invite you to say one Hail Mary together.....

I will try to say the things that are important about Medjugorje. I want to know if somebody is here for the first time. Yes. Then we will start at the beginning!

Twenty-fourth of June 1981, is the Feast of St. John the Baptist. You know that people did not work on that day. Ivanka and I wanted to be alone. We went outside the village to the hill that we now call Apparition Hill. I was 16; she was 14 years old at this time. We were talking about the normal things that girls of this age talk about. We didn't talk about God or faith. In one moment Ivanka told me, "I think the Blessed Mary is on the Hill." I didn't look. For me it was impossible. I left Ivanka at that place and I walked toward the village. When I was next to the first house, I felt a strong call inside of me; something was calling me to return. When I came back I saw Ivanka in the same place. She told me "Look, please!" I saw on the hill a Lady in a long dress holding a baby. Everything was strange. No one went to that hill. Especially not in a long dress with a baby in the hands! I felt all the emotions possible together.

I didn't' know if I was alive or dead, I didn't know that was happening to me. What prevailed in me was to go home. I ran away home where I saw my Grandmother and I said, "I think I saw Blessed Mary". She didn't believe me. She said, "Take the Rosary and go into your room and go pray, leave Blessed Mary where she is on the hill." I didn't talk or push her, I didn't explain to her, I wanted to do what she said, to be alone in prayer, because only when I was in prayer alone was I in peace. All night I spent in prayer because of the so, so strong emotions I felt, I could not sleep. Only in prayer did I find peace.

The next day I was helping my uncles like every other day. I didn't see the other visionaries. But then at the time when I saw the Blessed Mary the day before, I told my uncles that I must go to the hill. Something was calling me that I must go. They came with me to see what was happening. When we came to the hill, half of the village was at the hill. With every one of the visionaries someone came. We saw Blessed Mary at the same place. But this time she didn't have the baby in her arms. This day, 25 June 81, was the first time we came in front of her. She presented herself. She said to us, "My dear children, don't be afraid. I am the Queen of Peace." That is how the apparitions started.

A very short time we had the apparitions on the hill. Because this time, it was the time of communism in ex-Yugoslavia. After some days, maybe 3 or 4, the police came with dogs and they occupied the hill. If you went on the hill you went to prison. But these first days Blessed Mary showed some miracles. For example, on Cross Mountain, the cross disappeared and the people of the village saw Blessed Mary dressed in white. And in the sky it was written "Mir" which is "Peace". The people of the village saw this also. I remember that Fr. Jozo was our parish priest at the time. When the police came to the church to tell him he must close the church, because it was prohibited to have Mass in the church, he said, "With my eyes I saw written on the sky the word "Peace" from Krizevac to the Church. I will not close the church. With me you can do what you want." We know that he was in the prison for 2 years and a half.

There were three miracle healings also. And the people from the village seeing these things, and knowing us children, they believed us and they helped us. We were seeing the apparition every evening in a different place, so that nobody would know where we would be beforehand.

I had these daily apparitions until Christmas of 1982. For Christmas 1982 Blessed Mary gave me the 10th (last) secret, and she told me I must choose a priest to whom I would tell the secrets. I must tell him 10 days before what will happen and where, and for 7 days we must fast and pray, and then 3 days beforehand he must tell everybody.  He cannot choose to say or not say. If he accepts this mission he must do as God wills.

Blessed Mary always said, "Don't talk about the secrets, pray." She said, "Those who feel me like a mother and God as a Father, these people do not have anything to fear. Only those who do not know God have something to fear." We human beings always talk about the future. What will happen - when will it happen. But who of us can say who will be alive tomorrow. What Blessed Mary teaches us is that we must be ready this day to meet God. She said, "What I started in Fatima I will finish in Medjugorje. My heart will triumph." So what do we have to fear if the heart of our mother will triumph?

This apparition on Christmas 1982, she told me I would not have daily apparitions any more. She said I would have an apparition every 18th of March all my life. She also said I would have extraordinary apparitions. Those apparitions started on August 2, 1987. I still have these apparitions. I do not know when they will stop. These apparitions every 2nd day of the month are apparitions for "unbelievers". But blessed Mary, our Mother, never says "unbelievers." She always says "those who do not yet know the love of God". Because if you say to someone they are unbeliever, you judge them. Blessed Mary never judges, never. She asks our help. She said that we can change "unbelievers", but only with our prayer and our example. She wants us to put in our daily prayers in the first place, prayer for "unbelievers". Because she said when we pray for them, we pray for us and for our own future.

She wants that we pray her way. We must first feel love for them, to feel them like our brothers and sisters who are not lucky like us to recognize the love of God. Every one of us has an "unbeliever" in our home our near our home, or in the world, and this "unbeliever" is in our way, and we must ask ourselves, "Can this unbeliever see God and the love of God in us?" Our Lady doesn't want us to preach to other people. She wants that our life will talk. That "unbelievers" can see in us God and the love of God. I ask you with all my heart to take this very seriously because if you could see only one time the tears in the eyes of Our Lady, because of "unbelievers", I am sure you would pray with all your heart.

Mirjana is a firsthand witness. We can feel her intensity as she tells us "If you could see only one time the tears in the eyes of Our Lady..." Mirjana wants to communicate to us the reality of Our Lady's mission, her call to us. But we do not see, not even once, Our Lady's tears. So we must exercise our faith and live her messages as if we did see! God will be with us to guide us as we live her messages. We are her children!

Dear Family of Mary!  Part #2

Here is the second part of the transcript of Mirjana's talk to pilgrims featured on "Fruit of Medjugorje - Episode 106". It is long. But you have all weekend to work on it!! Once you read her words, you might go back and enjoy the episode on our web page. Mirjana is such a credible witness, to down to earth, and so firm in her belief. This talk is a great gift to us all!

Mirjana Soldo:

Because this time we are living in is a time of decision and we who say we are God's children have a big responsibility. Because every one of us can talk nicely. Like I said before, but Blessed Mary doesn't want this, she wants that unbelievers see in us that we have something more. I always give one example of something that happened to me. When I was going into the church here, in Medjugorje, our church is always full...Since I have problems with my back, I saw a place and I sat. But next to me were pilgrims from Italy, and they started to yell at me! Stand up, this is our place, how can you sit here. 100 things in one second, you know the Italian temperament! I stood up immediately, I was quiet. One lady part of the group recognized me and told the Italian pilgrims I was one of the visionaries. When they said I was one of the visionaries, they immediately offered me the whole pew!!! But why do I tell you this. If you think I was an unbeliever and Our lady invited me to come to Medjugorje, and for the first time I come into the church. I am inside the church and the people say they know the love of God, they are believers, but they treat me this way. If I was treated this way, do you think I would ever come in the church again? Who would be responsible for this? This is what Blessed Mary wants to say to us, that our example, our life has to change things. In one message she said...Our Lady said, "Do not say that you follow my Son, and then you live your life in a way that for those who do not know him, seeing you, do not want to know him at all." Please don't forget that when we pray for unbelievers we are praying for our own future.

Blessed Mary in this apparition in Medjugorje gives to each visionary a mission to pray for. My mission is to pray for unbelievers. Vicka and Jackov pray for the sick people. Marija for the souls in purgatory. Ivanaka for family. Ivan for priests and for the youth. But please don't think that when I pray for unbelievers they convert! When Jakov or Vicka pray for the sick they will heal? Only in this way blessed Mary shows us for what we need to pray.

The most important message repeated always is Holy Mass, but not just on Sunday. When we were children at the beginning of the apparition, she said to us,"When you have to choose between the apparition and Holy Mass, you must always choose Holy Mass, because during the Holy Mass my Son is with you." In all these years of apparitions, Blessed Mary never said pray and I will give to you. She always says, I can pray to my Son for you. Always Jesus in the first place. Many pilgrims coming in Medjugorje believe that we visionaries are privileged people, more holy than other people, but this is not true. Because for Blessed Mary, as for a mother, there doesn't exist privileged children. For her we are all her children and she is choosing us for different missions. She chose the 6 of us to say messages to us. But she chose all of you because she said in the message on Jan 2 that she is addressing to you..."My dear children I invited you, open your heart and let me enter your heart so I can make apostles of you." But this means that we all have the same responsibility. Six of us she wanted to give messages to us. And you, like apostles of Blessed Mary, can spread the messages. There are no privileged children.

I learned this at the beginning of the apparitions. You heard of my grandmother and uncles, at the beginning, I was the only visionary who didn't live here in Medjugorje. My parents are from here, but when they married, they left Medjugorje and had their home in Sarajevo, and I lived with them. Every summer vacation I was here because all my family was here. When the apparitions started I was here with the other visionaries. And how I told you that in the beginning, it was a communist regime, the police tried to destroy everything. They forced me to return to Sarajevo. I didn't want to go because I thought if I went back to Sarajevo, I wouldn't have apparitions. But nobody asked you. Here [in Medjugorje] everyone one was Catholic, because everyone is Croatian. In Sarajevo, there are Communists, Muslims and Orthodox. Only a few Catholics. And in my home in Sarajevo, every day the police came. They would turn everything upside down. And they would bring me with them. I was only 15. It is not like in America, where I have my lawyer and my social worker...In the communist regime, none of this. I was alone with them. I was thinking that Blessed Mary would help me. But then when I had apparition, she told me the same things as the visionaries here, nothing about my situation. I don't need to explain how I felt alone. But after some time I understood. With the prayer and fasting, for God there are not privileged children. When you have a cross or are suffering, pray and God will not leave you alone. When I understood this, accepted this, everything that came to me I took with more strength.

If you look at the messages on the 2nd of the month, you will see that if someone is privileged for her, it is our priests. Because she never said what they must do, she always says what we must do for them. She said, "my dear children, they don't need your judgment and criticism, what they need is your prayer and your love. God will judge them for what they do, but God will judge you for how you loved your priest. She said, if you lose respect for the priest, you will lose respect for the Church and for God. Also during the apparition on the 2nd of each month when Blessed Mary gives us her blessing, she always says, "My dear children I am giving you my motherly blessings, but the most important blessing you need on earth is the blessing of the priest."  

Because when they bless you my Son blesses you. And she also says, "Don't forget the pray for your shepherds because their hands are consecrated".  Because of this she has said about the priest, I ask you with all my heart, when you return to your parishes please show to the other people how our relationship should be with our priest. If your priest isn't doing what you think he should be doing, don't go around judging him. Take the Rosary and pray for him, this is how you can help him, not by judging. Because in the world in which we live, there are so many judgments, so many people judge everything, but there is so little love. Blessed Mary wants us to be recognized in love, not that we take in our hands only what God can do, only He can judge.  

I am sorry that I cannot tell you more about what Blessed Mary has been preparing us for all these years. But I can tell you one thing. We have this time in which we are living now. And we have the time of the Triumph of Blessed Mary's heart. Between these two times we have one bridge. This bridge is our priests. Because of this she is asking so many prayers for them, so much love and respect. Because this bridge must be so strong that all of us can cross over it. Because Blessed Mary said, "My heart, with them, will triumph." This means that without the priests we cannot have the Triumph of the Heart of Blessed Mary. Because who can open the door of heaven for us? Only priests.

She wants us to return prayer in our families. She says that nothing can put the family together like prayer together. She said that parents have a big responsibility before their children. Because the parents put the root of the faith in the heart of their children. They can do this only if they pray together and go to Holy Mass together. We cannot talk to our children about the importance of Holy Mass is Holy Mass is not in the first place for us. We cannot talk to our children about prayer if they don't see us praying. Because of this she said that parents have a big responsibility. Children do only what they see in the home. They must see that for the parents God is in the first place, nothing else.

Children see more than we think. You who are here. You saw my daughter. Marija, the older, when she was 2 ½ years old I never told her about the apparitions. I thought she was too young to understand what was happening. But one day she was playing with a friend, and I was watching them. I heard her friend say to my daughter, "My mother drives a car!" I don't drive and so Marija was quiet for a second and then she said, "Big deal, my mother talks with Blessed Mary every day." Without saying anything, she understood because she saw what was happening in the house. Because of this it is important what the parents do.

When I talk about this message of Blessed Mary, I cannot be serious. Because it is a big problem. For American, not so much, but for Argentinian and Italian, it is a big problem. It is fasting!!! Blessed Mary wants us to fast on Wednesday and Friday on bread and water. In America they are pretty good, of course it is only what I saw. Maybe they do it only in front of me. They ask one typical question, "Can I have coffee in the morning? " I always say with a serious face, "Yes, but get up early before Blessed Mary gets up and sees you."

I don't want to talk about Argentina in front of others. Blessed Mary has taught us one beautiful thing. When you think of the messages she gives, every message begins "My dear children". She never says, "My dear American, my dear Italian, My dear Argentinian" We are her children. She says that on earth there only exists children of God. You believe that God exists. You believe in Blessed Mary. But I saw her. I know that heaven exists. And because of this maybe, I don't look on the world with the same eyes as you. For example, for me, it doesn't exist nationality. When someone says, I am American or Croatian, I smile to myself. Because I know what this means before God, NOTHING.

But it is really nice to see here in Medjugorje, how every nationality reacts to fasting. Those who protest the most are the Italians. They have a 100 questions. How long is Wednesday or Friday? How can I cut so it is shorter? 100 questions.!! It was interesting, a football player was here, an Italian. The whole team came here. I know he was famous because the children were following him. He said, "I don't think you understand Blessed Mary. She was only talking to you, not to all of us!"

But if you never have fasted twice a week, if you never have said the Rosary once a day, I invite you to start as Blessed Mary started us. When she first appeared she asked that we pray 7 Our Fathers, 7 Hail Marys, 7 Glory Bes. Don't tell me you don't have time to say 7 Our Fathers, Hail Marys and Glory Bes. After some time she asked for one part of the Rosary and that we fast on Friday. After another time, she asked the second and then the third part of the Rosary and then fast on Wednesday. She went step by step. This can be an example for all of you. It is important to walk with Blessed Mary. Because she only wants to give us her Son.

We can have everything in the world, but if we don't have peace, we have nothing. But the only true peace is Jesus. Because of this, she asks Holy Mass, Rosary, Fasting...because she wants us to recognize Jesus. She wants us to have monthly confession. She said that there doesn't exist one man in the world who doesn't need monthly confession. I want to tell you like a sister, you have done so much for Blessed Mary. You leave your home, you travel so far. Everything for Her. As a sister I ask you to take my advice and go to Confession. Our Mother always says only a pure and clean heart knows how to open and only a pure and clean heart can receive graces.

She wants us to return the Bible in our home. When she gives the message to me she doesn't explain the message to me. She gives this message the same way as I tell the message to you. Like all of you I must pray to understand what God is telling me through this message. You who follow the message on the 2nd day of each month see that the message is long. When I have the apparition at the Blue Cross when Blessed Mary gives me the message, at the Blue cross, it is always Miki next to me, and I tell the message to him and he writes it. When I return to my home to pray, I need the written message to pray, because I can remember what she said, but not word for word.   When Blessed Mary says return the Bible to the home, I think all of us have a Bible. But she wants simple things, that we open the Bible and read a few things. She wants the Bible to really be present in our home. Blessed Mary said that in the Bible we have all the answers we are looking for. This is what I personally believe is most important for pilgrims, but now you can ask me questions about what you are interested in, and I will answer with all my heart. Our Lady blessed everyone present and all the religious articles brought for blessing. Mirjana noted that when Our Lady spoke the sentence: “In this way, I desire for the darkness, and the shadow of death which wants to encompass and mislead you, to be driven away,” some kind of a shadow of gray was seen. When Our Lady continued the next sentence, “I desire for you to feel the joy of the blessing of God’s promise,” the grayness disappeared.

Pray for our Priests, the Shepherds

   A recurrent message we hear each month, given to Mirjana, is to pray for our priests, God's chosen ones, who are our shepherds.  Our Lady emphasizes their importance to us. In Father Jozo's book, Observe the Fruits, he reveals a story about a Canadian lady, a leading ballet dancer, Lisa Baril. She and her husband, a university professor, came as pilgrims to Medjugorje.  Lisa studied and perfectly learned Croatian ,and was thus able to talk fluently with the parishioners and also to interview the seers. She and her husband became great apostles of Medjugorje, becoming involved in a movement to help priests and bishops, called “The Daisy Movement” (Adopt a Priest Program). “The Daisy Movement” was founded in Aylmer, Quebec by Mrs. Louise Ward in1981 (the same year Our Lady began appearing in Medjugorje).

  Within a short time, thousands of people and prayer groups were offering themselves to pray for their own priest or bishop. This movement has spread all over the world. The beauty of this movement is its simplicity.  This is how it works:  draw a daisy with seven petals. In the heart of the “daisy” you will write the name of the priest. On each petal for each day of the week you will write the name of the person who will be praying for the priest as long as God will keep him alive.  It is also acceptable to write a couple, or a group name on a petal.  Then, on a special occasion, you will give a “daisy” as a gift to our beloved priest who will surely be happy.  Through prayer we can show our love and our faithfulness not only to our priests, but to the whole Church.

   Fr. Jozo Zovko, during his former daily catechesis, mentioned the priests, and invited us to pray for them:

“Dearest brethren,  pray for the priests.  Without the priest there is no Confession; we cannot leave our sins; we have no Holy Mass.  Pray for the priests!”  It is important, then, that we pray for the vocations to the priesthood –  for the renewal of the Church.  Father Jozo believes that vocations are lacking because we have stopped praying. He encourages us to pray so that Italy and the world may always have holy priests like Father Pio and St. Leopold Mandic and others.  Father Jozo continues: “Let us put into practice the messages of Our Lady, the Queen of Peace, to help the Church, the families, the world.”  Wouldn't it be great to answer Our Lady's by taking the initiative to incorporate the “Daisy Movement ” in our own dioceses and parishes?  This is a challenge to make a change in the Church and the world.  Are you ready to take on this challenge?

"One single mass per year"

  Many are still unaware of a magnificent and astonishing element in Medjugorje’s history. It is a joy for me to share this with you today, because it is directly linked to Divine Mercy Sunday!

The Turks ruled the country for more than four centuries (1463-1873). Now during this period of time, the Christians were submitted to terrible persecution and forced to convert to Islam. In fact, according to the Papal visitor Peter Masarecchi, by 1624 40-50,000 Croat Catholics were forced to convert to Islam in the central part of Bosnia. (This explains the presence of Muslims in the country, who are in fact “ex-Christians” according to their roots).

The government at that time did not allow Catholics to celebrate the Mass, so a sort of secret Christian life grew that was similar to the secret life of the first Christians who celebrated Mass in the Catacombs of Rome, (also similar to the lives of Christians in modern day China).

The Bosnian government did however make one concession: Christians were granted permission to celebrate one Mass per year, only one, in a predetermined place, in the middle of nowhere, far from any city.

The date of this Mass was predetermined too - the first Sunday after Easter, the same date that Jesus would later choose as the Feast of the Divine Mercy, according to the revelations of Saint Faustina Kowalska.

The Christians, who were so fervent in this era, did not hesitate to go by foot to this chosen place in their thousands, walking for days and through the night in all weather facing dangers along the way, in order to be able to live this Mass and “see Jesus” present in the host at least once in the year. This pilgrimage was, for them, the source of their strength, their hope, their joy, and their light in the night of persecution.

We know that there is method in God’s ideas! We will only see in Heaven, the whole tapestry that he weaves in the world in his Divine Providence, and how strongly we are connected to one another through the communion of Saints! Only then will we discover how certain events, which appear to be new to us, are in fact deeply rooted in the past, in the heart of several generations of believers who have prayed and paid the price, who have even spilled their blood for their faith. It happens that sometimes God reveals a little of his mysterious designs and illuminates a surprising continuity in His choices.

So this place, blessed by the annual mass for these thousands of suffering Christians, was none other than the rocky countryside of Medjugorje, in the exact spot where the cemetery of Kovacica is now, (where Father Slavko is buried)!! It is found just a few meters away from St James church, where thousands of pilgrims gather again today!

No wonder then to see rivers of graces flowing on this village! Isn't our God truly Amazing?     Children of Medjugorje 

God's words are Permanent they endure forever.

" THE WORD OF GOD "

"Anyone who hears My words and puts them into practice is like the wise man who built his house on rock." -Matthew 7:24

We can stand on God's words even more firmly than we can stand on a rock. God's words are Permanent (Ps 119:160). They endure forever and are firm as the heavens (Ps 119:89). When we stand upon God's word, He steadies our footsteps (Ps 119:133) and keeps us from stumbling (Ps 119:165). He sets our feet upon the rock of His word and makes firm our steps (Ps 40:3).

The literal meaning of John 8:31 is that we make our home in the word of God. Therefore, in standing upon the rock of the word of God, we abide in His word to the point that we build our home on that rock (Mt 7:24). In building our lives on the rock of God's word, we are building our spiritual house on a firm and sure Foundation (1 Cor 3:11). Jesus, the living and incarnate Word of God (Jn 1:1), is the Foundation (1 Cor 3:11), the Rock (1 Cor 10:4), and the Cornerstone (Mt 21:42). "Therefore, thus says the Lord God: See, I am laying a Stone in Zion, a Stone That has been tested, a precious Cornerstone as a sure foundation: he who puts his faith in It shall not be shaken" (Is 28:16).

With the psalmist, let us say: "I considered my ways and turned my feet to Your decrees" (Ps 119:59). Stand upon the rock foundation of Jesus, the Word of God. You will not be shaken

"Now will I praise those godly men, our ancestors, each in his own time." Sirach 44:1

Think of your godly ancestors. Think of the person that taught you to pray, of Grandma who "prayed all the time," of Dad's holy boldness, and of Uncle Joe, who loved the Church (see Eph 5:25) and died with Jesus' precious name on his lips.

Remember the virtues of the godly men and women in your life (Sir 44:10). Recall Dad's honesty, courage, justice, and love. Think of Mom's purity, kindness, faithfulness, and love.

Thank God for every Christian you've ever met. Thank God especially for the Christians in your ancestry and in your more immediate family. "Their wealth remains in their families, their heritage with their descendants; through God's covenant with them their family endures, their posterity, for their sake" (Sir 44:11-12). You are blessed because of those who have gone before you. "Their bodies are peacefully laid away, but their name lives on and on" (Sir 44:14).

*What spiritual heritage are you giving to the next generation? Will your children, grandchildren, friends, etc. retell your wisdom at family gatherings and proclaim your praise at church? (Sir 44:15) Will God and your family be proud of you and your holy life?

 Father, may ages to come call me blessed (see Lk 1:48).

Dear Children of Medjugorje, praised be Jesus and Mary!

1. On March 2^nd, Mirjana Soldoreceived her monthly apparition inside her new building, after which she conveyed to us the following message:

"Dear children, I am coming to you as a mother and I desire that in me, as in a mother, you may find your abode, consolation and rest. Therefore, my children, apostles of my love, pray. Pray with humble devotion, obedience and complete trust in the Heavenly Father. Trust as I have trusted when it was said to me that I will bring the blessing of the promise. May out of your hearts, from your lips, always come forth 'May your will be done!' Therefore, trust and pray so that I can intercede for you before the Lord, for Him to give you the Heavenly Blessing and fill you with the Holy Spirit. Then He will be able to help all those who do not know the Lord - you, apostles of my love, will help them to call Him 'Father' with complete trust. Pray for your shepherds and place your trust in their blessed hands. Thank you."

2. Finally Success in Fasting?

Matthew, a very dear friend, has been a faithful pilgrim of Medjugorje since 1996. That year, after receiving a particular grace on Mount Krizevac, he experienced a conversion so deep that his life took a sharp turn to the right, much to the great joy of his wife, who had been praying, praying, praying for a very long time. He wholeheartedly embraced the principle messages of the Virgin and began his education, doing his best to live out her famous five stones (Note 1) in order to grow in the faith. Maintaining his commitment to these objectives was something he couldn't guarantee after only five days in Medjugorje. He did that little by little.

Two years later, he no longer had any difficulty with monthly confession, the Eucharist, daily reading the Word of God, and praying the rosary.

But fasting, that endeavor among the five stones . . . impossible! There was nothing he could do. He was a fine gourmet, and a connoisseur of the best wines of France. He enjoyed great health, and mealtime, for him, was a sacred and unquestionable necessity. Every attempt at fasting proved to be in vain. When Matthew came to Medjugorje, he used to joke with his friends, "When you go to Sister Emmanuel's house, if you want to eat well, avoid going there on Wednesday or Friday!"

One day, Matthew asked me for advice: How could he finally succeed at fasting? I was surprised at his question, I wondered if he expected me to reveal a quasi-magic remedy. Then I found out that he had no actual hope of putting his problem to rest. He admitted to me that each time he took one step forward in his attempt at fasting, he had to take two steps back when it became obvious that it wasn't working for him. All the gleaming lights from the Gospa in her messages on the necessity of fasting had become for him points of discomfort, of suffering, even of guilt. He enumerated for me a profusion of disastrous symptoms that attacked him when he began to fast.

"I tried to force it", he told me. "But in vain. I would force myself to eat bread, but then I'd have a bad day. I'd be in a bad mood, and at 2 o'clock in the morning, when I couldn't sleep, I'd get up and go into the kitchen to have an omelet or something like that, so I could get back to sleep. Finally, I just quit fasting. Ever since we experienced our retreat in Medjugorje my wife and I have organized our daily schedule putting Jesus in the first place. Since our children no longer live with us, each day we follow the same routine: in the morning we attend Mass and in the early afternoon we say the rosary or go to adoration. But there's still the problem of fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays. I want bread to become my only nourishment two times a week, the way it is for the other apostles of the Gospa!

"You ought to try bread made with spelt," I told him. "That flour is really rich and contains all you need. It will really fill you up (Note 2). You can also use a bread machine (Note 3). And don't forget to give your struggle over to Jesus the night before fasting so that you make the decision beforehand, then we wake up with a strong mind and will! you'll see. He'll help you!"

Matthew went for it. "I followed your advice," he wrote to me later. "The other day, after I had decided to buy a bread machine and spelt, I went to my local bakery to get some information on it, and saw some loaves of spelt bread on the display shelf. It was a Tuesday, so I bought enough for the next day, Wednesday, but with no assurance as to the hoped-for result. Wednesday morning I cut into my new spelt bread with the firm resolution to eat only bread until the next morning. At morning Mass, I entrusted my fasting to Jesus, so He would help me. Miracle! The bread alone was enough. I fueled up all day on the bread: a marvel! I was flabbergasted to have 'gotten by' morning, noon, and night on spelt bread with some honey and water.

The fasting hadn't been a trial. On the contrary, it was astonishing, because I hadn't suffered my usual upset stomach. I had a very good night, as though I had eaten normally, and woke up at 7 in the morning with no heaviness. What's more, the entire day Thursday was spent in joy. I then committed myself to fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays for the intentions of our heavenly Mother. And to think it took me 17 years to find this recipe! Maybe it was a gift from St. Therese as well, because I had to live in Lisieux (France) to find a bakery which made this bread. Fasting is no longer servitude but a source of joy that my wife shares with me."

Matthew was not afraid to leap into the water. All too often we want to understand a message from Mary or a verse from the Bible before putting it into practice. What a mistake! We miss so many graces that way! If Heaven asks us to do something, what do we have to fear? Certainly, we have to organize ourselves in a way that allows us to live rightly, looking for methods that are best adapted to our health, our families, etc., but it is only in living out the messages that we discover the new horizons behind them. There are secrets that don't reveal themselves until we act with confidence.

3. In Rome? Last month the six visionaries were invited to go to Rome together in order to meet a few Cardinals from the Commission on Medjugorje. Things must be moving along since this is the first time that they have been invited together. In the past few years of investigation, they had been invited separately, some of them even several times, but not together.  

Mirjana gave a touching witness on Radio Maria-Italy after the meeting. Of course, none of the visionaries are allowed to reveal what was said to them there. No problem, they are used to secrets! However, she mentioned that before she went, she was a bit afraid to speak to Cardinals! Let's keep up praying with confidence until the Roman statement is issued.There is much at stake with this statement, both for the Church and for the world! We can also help the experts who are involved by sending them our Guardian Angels because Angels are excellent to whisper the ways of God in men's hearts. May Our Lady's plans be fulfilled!

Dearest Gospa, during this Lent, we wish to please God above all. We wish to get closer to Jesus, adoring Him in His sufferings for us. You know so well how to do that! Please, lead us, help us, inspire us!

Medjugorje is leading to the triumph of the Immaculate Heart

These lyrics from the hymn Amazing Grace testify to the life of Fr. David Gunter, a priest from Massachusetts, who through a brief experience of becoming blind and deaf from the abusive use of drugs led him to seek after and return to God.

Through his conversion he left the world of drugs behind, but it wasn’t until his encounter with Our Lady in Medjugorje that he found real healing of the soul that eventually led him to the priesthood.

Through Our Lady’s intercession, I believe, Medjugorje is the beginning of a process leading to the triumph of the Immaculate Heart. This is what we are experiencing here in Medjugorje. And it is healing and it is mercy. So I tell you all now, be not afraid. There is so much more to come. So much more healing, so much more grace. Our Lord wants you all to have peace, peace.

Who Is Our Real Enemy

Saint Paul was not shy about naming the devil publicly. Who is our real enemy? Not our rival at work, not our critic at school, not our competitor in business, no other human person.

Our real enemy is Satan.

He is behind all the division, the violence, the hatred, the broken relationships. He is the one who hates all mankind - he and his minions.

Ephesians 6: 10-18. " Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil. For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world ruler of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of peace; above all taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.
Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints..."

Our Lady's Medjugorje message of February 25, 1988:

"Dear children! Today again I am calling you to prayer to complete surrender to God. You know that I love you and am coming here out of love so I could show you the path to peace and salvation for your souls. I want you to obey me and not permit Satan to seduce you. Dear children, Satan is very strong and, therefore, I ask you to dedicate your prayers to me so that those who are under his influence can be saved. Give witness by your life. Sacrifice your lives for the salvation of the world. I am with you, and I am grateful to you, but in heaven you shall receive the Father's reward which He has promised to you. Therefore, dear children, do not be afraid. If you pray, Satan cannot injure you even a little bit because you are God's children and He is watching over you. Pray and let the rosary always be in your hand as a sign to Satan that you belong to me. Thank you for having responded to my call."

My Journey and Mama Mary

     Early on in my teenage years, I struggled with my faith and barricaded myself from God and His love. I got caught up in lust, pride, and various pleasures of the world. After hitting rock-bottom and experiencing depression after my freshman year of college at Penn State Behrend, I immersed myself in volunteer work and my Catholic faith. I knew there was something different about interacting with the poor, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Then, I made a TEC retreat (now called Divine Mercy Encounter) and I saw Christ’s true presence in the Eucharist. I felt God’s merciful love for the first time and realized I had been seeing the face of Christ in those I served. I had found my “meaning” and, since then, have never looked back. After coming to know Jesus Christ, I felt God telling me every day in prayer to “Pray the Rosary.” I decided to give it a shot. In the beginning, it was really tough; in fact, I would venture to say it took me about six months to learn how to pray the Rosary. I would fall asleep, and felt I was not able to meditate on the mysteries. However, it was through the Rosary that Mary formed me into who I am today.
     While working a Divine Mercy Encounter retreat, I publically confessed I was open to the priesthood. God really blessed this, because the next day the Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Renewal showed up at Penn State Behrend for Mass. I was so amazed by their humble witness to Christ that I felt called to visit them in the future. During this time I started praying a vocational prayer each day, asking for Mary’s intercession, and of course remained faithful to the holy Rosary. During this time of confusion, my campus minister handed me a book called 33 Days to Morning Glory. I began the process of consecrating myself to Mary, not really sure why, but it seemed like God’s will.
     Finally I made it out to visit the Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in New York City. While I was there, I was totally captivated by the friars’ holiness, joy, love, peace, deep prayer life, and service to the poorest of the poor. Most specifically, I love their devotion to Eucharistic Adoration and Our Blessed Mother. This was radically living out the gospel, to the fullest. My heart desired this, but I wondered if it would be too tough for me. During my visit with the friars, one of the founders, Father Glenn, encouraged us to give the Lord 40 days, like Jesus in the desert, for our discernment. The idea was that God would give us an answer about our vocation. I was inspired, and gave the Lord 40 days, and promised to offer up various sacrifices and prayer. During this period, I consecrated myself to Our Lady of Fatima on May 13, 2013. Ironically, I was told this is the same day that Msgr. Peterson [former spiritual advisor of The Spirit of Medjugorje] died – someone whom I never met, but God keeps bringing into my life.

Medjugorje Bread

     Also, during this time, Our Lady led me to the Medjugorje devotion. One day on a service retreat, Joseph Goodwin, now a seminarian in the archdiocese of Denver, told me he was hungry and had not eaten all day. He explained to me this so-called “bread and water fast” Our Lady had asked us to do. Instantly, I was intrigued, and after some prayer, decided to take on this practice myself on Wednesdays and Fridays or at least attempt to. In the past, I had never really fasted and did not really understand it. However, I saw the Lord started to bear fruit through this. The Holy Spirit was totally convicting me of my sins and introduced me to this concept of redemptive suffering. This became a new weapon for me in the spiritual life! I started to research Medjugorje and found all the messages fantastic and fruitful in my own life!
     During this period of 40 days, I managed to fail at keeping my commitments, thinking less and less about my vocation, and even worse – forgetting I was doing the 40-day discernment! Towards the end of the 40 days, I, too, like Jesus, ended up in the desert – but in Las Vegas, Nevada for a wedding. I truly was in “sin city,” and never had felt a more evil presence in my life. Peddlers would try to hand me and my siblings cards for “call girls” and I avoided them by making the Sign of the Cross. It was very sorrowful to experience this. As Our Lady of Fatima says, “More souls go to hell because of sins of the flesh.” After the wedding, before I went to bed, I was utterly frustrated with the Lord. I remembered the first promise of the Rosary was that Mary will send you signal graces. So that night, I asked Mary to give me a concrete sign about my vocation. The next day, on my return home to Pittsburgh, I ran into a Friar of the Renewal in the Pittsburgh airport! Thank you, Mama Mary! When I arrived home, I realized it was the 41st day of my discernment. How merciful Our Lord is and always honors His word. I realized it was time to start taking this call a lot more seriously. After further discernment with my spiritual director and additional visits to the Friars, the Lord convicted me that this was my call.
     I was instantly hit with a roadblock after I desired to enter the Friars: educational loans. However, through God’s Divine Providence, I was led to a group called “The Labouré Society,” which helps people with religious and priestly vocations overcome student loans through a fundraising ministry. I am fundraising with my class of 18 aspiring vocations, who are all prevented from continuing formation in priestly and religious life due to our educational loans.
     In fraternity, I ask for you to join me in support for my vocation. I have applied to the friars, and the community would like me to enter formation as soon as possible. As Christ needed Simon on the path to Calvary, I need your help to give my life to this calling. I am working with The Labouré Society to raise assistance for the hundreds of vocations like mine that are turned away because of student loans. We have prayed unceasingly for vocations, and I assure you, God is answering them. Please consider a tax deductible gift to Labouré to enable these calls to be answered. Most importantly, please pray for me and my fellow aspirants that we may have the courage to respond in faith and echo Mary’s “Yes” to God.

Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God

Come, O Most Holy Spirit, You who makes all things new. Today grant a miracle in us and through us. Change our hearts. Take from us our hearts of stone and give us a new heart, a heart that knows how to love, how to pray, how to forgive. Catholic Nuns from Ukraine came to Medjugorje

Greek Catholic Nuns from Ukraine came to Medjugorje

Group of 64 Greek Catholic Nuns, members of fourteen different orders from Ukraine, came to Medjugorje for the first time from March 10 to March 15, 2012. Fr. Petro Kobalj is the organiser of this pilgrimage and he regularly participates in the Seminar for Priests that is organised in Medjugorje every summer. “These nuns wished to come to Medjugorje so they could witness about this place in Ukraine, since many of them work in the houses of mercy. They wanted to learn prayers and to bring that to the convents where they work and live. Here, in Medjugorje, they were able to see what does the living church mean”, said Fr. Kobalj.

Sr. Maria, Sr. Ljubomira, Sr. Tadeja and Sr. Nazarija spoke about their experience of Medjugorje.

* Sr. Marija is the member of the Order of St. Joseph and she told us that she cannot describe with words what she felt in Medjugorje. “I think it was a miracle that happened to me. Before I came to Medjugorje, I had huge pain in my back. Doctors did everything they could. One of the nuns that lives with me was encouraging me and she was saying how everything was going to be all right and I should go to Medjugorje. I told her that I could not walk, and especially not travel. I felt pain while we were travelling, but thanks to dear God I was able to come to Medjugorje.” She said that she experienced a great miracle since she was able to climb Cross Mountain.

 Sr. Ljubomira from the Order of Servants of the Immaculate Virgin Mary witnessed that they have one prayer group thanks to Medjugorje.

*“I am especially grateful to the Queen of Peace, since I deeply felt her presence, she restored peace in my heart”, added Sr. Ljubomira.
