LIVING SIMPLY - A Catholic Mom in Hawaii
Before I even read today's Magnificat's meditation by Caryll Houselander, I have been trying to simplify our family. Getting rid of excess things in our home is a priority for me. One of the main reasons I am focusing on this is because of Matthew 6:19 :“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be."
Scripture source
The above passage became very clear to me when my father died. My mom was left with the family home and all the possessions they and we and accumulated over the years. We were in such a hurry to help my mother that we hurriedly tried to get rid of as much of my father's things are we could. I see now that it interfered with the time my mother needed to grieve. My dad was a collector of movies and baseball cards. Those items entertained him while he was alive but they only caused my mother to be burden with them after he died.
Then there is an elderly friend. She really has no family members left. She also has a house full of things she collected over the years, including many she collected when she traveled the world. It is sad to see her give away her precious things to "friends" and acquaintances such so she has the comfort of knowing they would be in good hands. She knows her time on earth is short.
I don't want to burden my son with the things his father and I have in our home. I think it is time to let go of material possessions and to really start concentrating on storing up treasures in heaven. Many things we have are kept for sentimental reasons. Even a little scrap of paper my mom wrote me a note on seems to precious to throw away. I mentioned that to my mom and she just laughed.
The following is the Caryll Houseland meditation I mentioned above. I hope to have a "poor" home like the one she describes. That would be heavenly.
"To be rich is to live in an overcrowded house, a house of life overcrowded with false values; they encumber like useless heirlooms. They ought to be thrown out of the windows bu the courage and the virility to do this are lacking...
Poverty is like one room. The windows are open, the sun comes in, the walls are whitewashed, there are one or two books chosen for our delight, they are read and re-read; if there is a picture it is one bought at the cost of sacrifice because it is a real joy, we see it because there is no bric-a-brac to distract from it. There is one earthenware pot that holds water, and the wild flowers know in it their affinity to earth and rain. This room is a workroom, it it we learn the joy of good work, done well, and of the real charity, the fellow-feeling, of working with others..."
There is a great spiritual danger in being attached to things and that includes animals. Recently we lost our beloved dog. The pain my husband and I felt was intense. I wanted to cry out "Why me!, Why me!" But then I asked "Why not me?" I recalled the immeasurable pain our Lady suffered when she lost her beloved and innocent Son, our Lord. How can I even dare to complain of my pain. How can I get to Heaven if I cannot even carry this little cross without needing comfort. I can't.
It is not easy to let go or to get rid of things. But it will all be worth it not only at the end but also now because we will have more time and room for things that matter...like working on our treasures to store in Heaven.

All the Saints Reflection
All Saints Day, the day on which Catholics celebrate all the saints, known and unknown, is a surprisingly old feast. It arose out of the Christian tradition of celebrating the martyrdom of saints on the anniversary of their martyrdom. When martyrdoms increased during the persecutions of the late Roman Empire, local dioceses instituted a common feast day in order to ensure that all martyrs, known and unknown, were properly honored. The current date of November 1 was instituted by Pope Gregory III (731-741), when he consecrated a chapel to all the martyrs in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and ordered an annual celebration. This celebration was originally confined to the diocese of Rome, but Pope Gregory IV (827-844) extended the feast to the entire Church and ordered it to be celebrated on November 1.

Prayer of Saint Gertrude the Great for the Souls in Purgatory.
The Prayer of Saint Gertrude the Great for the Souls in Purgatory.
Our Lord dictated the following prayer to St. Gertrude the Great to release 1,000 Souls from Purgatory each time it is said.
* Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen."
St. Gertrude's life was the mystic life of the Cloister – a Benedictine nun. She meditated on the Passion of Christ, which many times brought a flood of tears to her eyes. She did many penances and Our Lord appeared to her many times. She had a tender love for the Blessed Virgin and was very devoted to the suffering souls in Purgatory. She died in 1334. Her feast day is November 16th.

Our Lady's Medjugorje Message of November 25, 1986 - Pray for the souls in Purgatory
Our Lady's Message, November 25, 1986
.
“Dear Children! Today I wish to call you to pray daily for souls in purgatory. For every soul prayer and grace is necessary to reach God and the love of God.
.
.
By doing this, dear children, you obtain new intercessors who will help you in life to realize that all the earthly things are not important for you, that only Heaven is that for which it is necessary to strive.
.
.
Therefore, dear children, pray without ceasing that you may be able to help yourselves and the others to whom your prayers will bring joy. Thank you for having responded to my call. ”

Our Lady's Message, given on September 2, 2011 to Mirjana Soldo:
"Dear children; with all my heart and soul full of faith and love in the Heavenly Father, I gave my Son to you and am giving Him to you anew. My Son has brought you, the people of the entire world, to know the only true God and His love. He has led you on the way of truth and made you brothers. Therefore, my children, do not wander, do not close your heart before that truth, hope and love.
*Everything around you is passing and everything is falling apart, only the glory of God remains.
Therefore, renounce everything that distances you from the Lord. Adore Him alone, because He is the only true God. I am with you and I will remain with you. I am especially praying for the shepherds that they may be worthy representatives of my Son and may lead you with love on the way of truth. Thank you."
REFLECTION:
In recent years, Mirjana has stayed almost completely away from discussing her secrets, as do the other visionaries. In fact, she has stated that a supernatural "block" about them has allowed her to go about life without thinking or even readily recalling most of them. She brushes aside questions about them.
But back in 1985 – when the alleged revelations were fresh – she said about the first secret, “To the people of this world who pray it will be a gift.” Other parts of the interview were even more revealing:
Father Ljubic:-Father Ljubicic:- How would you assess the current situation around the world? How would you personally view all these things?
Mirjana:- There never was an age such as this one; never before was God honored and respected less than now, never before have so few prayed to Him; everything seems to be more important than God. This is the reason why she cries so much. The number of unbelievers is becoming greater and greater. As they endeavor for a better life, to such people, God Himself is superfluous and dispensable. This is why I feel deeply sorry for them and for the world. They have no idea what awaits them. If they could only take a tiny peek at these secrets, they would convert in time. Certainly, God always forgives all those who genuinely convert.

Holy Spirit Teach Us to Pray
Romans 8:26-30
" The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness." (Romans 8:26)
If, as St. Paul wrote, “we do not know how to pray as we ought” (Romans 8:26), how can we ever hope to reach God’s ear? Paul himself gives the answer: The Spirit intercedes for us “with inexpressible groanings … according to God’s will” (8:26,27). It is the Spirit—the life and power of God active within human hearts—who can lead us and teach us to pray.
It is no coincidence that Paul’s teaching on prayer comes in the middle of a letter devoted to the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection. As in all other things, Jesus is our model for prayer, and his cross is the source of our prayer. Just as Jesus put aside his own will, even his own life, and relied fully on his Father’s will, the same applies to us. Prayer that touches the Father’s heart is prayer that puts aside our own ideas and presuppositions, so that we can learn to pray in a new and more powerful way.
"Do you know that the Spirit of God is within you? Can you trust that many of your desires to love God, pray for people’s healing and conversion, and offer forgiveness come from God himself through the Spirit inside you? When Jesus left the world, he sent his Holy Spirit to speak to us and prompt us on a level that far surpasses human words.
Even when we feel out of touch with the Holy Spirit, that doesn’t mean he has left us. It only means that we need to reach out to him. Look for ways that he may be prompting you to pray, to worship, and to intercede beyond what you might normally do on your own. Quiet your mind in prayer and let it rest on a passage from Scripture. Ask the Spirit to give you a deeper love for God or a knowledge of his love that goes beyond the power of words to express. Place your trust in the Holy Spirit. He has far more glorious plans for you than you ever could imagine.
“Holy Spirit, teach me to pray today. Enkindle in my heart a desire that the Father’s will be done in my life and in the life of your church.”
Psalm 13:4-6; Luke 13:22-30

Seer points to Mary as many fear melt down
by Jakob Marschner
With economy and safety seeming to collapse, it is ideal to turn to the Virgin Mary for help, visionary Marija Pavlovic-Lunetti told a crowd of 3000 in Miami, Florida, on October 24. She also stressed the ephemeral nature of our stay on earth, and that each person’s behavior will decide where eternity is going to be spent.
While local media were busy tracking the development of Hurricane Rina, on Monday evening visionary Marija Pavlovic-Lunetti urged about 3000 people in Miami, Florida, to turn to the Virgin Mary at times of change and crisis.
“Lunetti, speaking in Italian, said that at this time of change, when the economy and security that we depend on seem to collapse, it is ideal to go to the Virgin for help through prayer, and ask for her intercession before God”, about.com reports from Marija’s talk, given on a lawn next to St. Agnes’ Church in Key Biscayne.
Marija also emphasized the ephemeral nature of our stay on earth and the importance of realizing the meaning of our individual lives within an eternal dimension. And so she stressed the importance of praying every day, and keeping a Bible at home.
“With our behavior we risk an eternity. I am responsible for my actions but you are responsible for yours” Marija said, according to about.com.
The Prayer of a Life Time
THE PRAYER OF A LIFETIME
"The Spirit intercedes for the saints as God Himself wills." -Romans 8:27
For more than twenty-five years, Pope John Paul II called us to great, growing, and intense prayer (The Redeemer of Man, 22). The Pope taught: "A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and Lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer.
Jesus Himself has shown us by His own example that prayer and fasting are the first and most effective weapons against the forces of evil ( Mt 4:1-11). As He taught His disciples, some demons cannot be driven out except in this way (Mk 9:29)" There is "the necessity of praying always and not losing heart" (Lk 18:1).
*Jesus' first followers were pitiful in their prayerlessness until they received the Holy Spirit. "The Spirit too helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us" (Rm 8:26).
When Advent begins next month, ask Jesus to renew your Baptism and Confirmation - to baptize and immerse you in the Holy Spirit (Mk 1:8). "Then you will pray in the Spirit" (see 1 Cor 14:15; Eph 6:18)
Father, make me docile to the Spirit and powerful in prayer.
"Try to come in through the narrow door. Many, I tell you, will try to enter and be unable." -Lk 13:24

Seek the gifts of the Holy Spirit
Pope John Paul II |
http://www.presentationministries.com/brochures/SeekGiftSpirit.asp
"Seek eagerly after love. Set your hearts on spiritual gifts." —1 Corinthians 14:1"
Pope John Paul II has taught: "The Holy Spirit, while bestowing diverse ministries in Church communion, enriches it still further with particular gifts or promptings of grace, called charisms...The charisms are received in gratitude both on the part of the one who receives them, and also on the part of the entire Church. They are in fact a singularly rich source of grace for the vitality of the apostolate and for the holiness of the whole Body of Christ (The Lay Members of Christ's Faithful People, 24).
Pope John Paul II has also taught: "The Spirit of Jesus, received by the humble and docile heart of the believer, brings about the flourishing of Christian moral life and the witness of holiness amid the great variety of vocations, gifts, responsibilities, conditions and life situations. As Novatian once pointed out — here expressing the authentic faith of the Church — it is the Holy Spirit 'who confirmed the hearts and minds of the disciples, who revealed the mysteries of the Gospel, who shed upon them the light of things divine. Strengthened by his gift, they did not fear either prisons or chains for the name of the Lord; indeed they even trampled upon the powers and torments of the world, armed and strengthened by him, having in themselves the gifts which this same Spirit bestows and directs like jewels to the Church, the Bride of Christ. It is in fact HE who raises up prophets in the Church, instructs teachers, guides tongues, works wonders and healings, accomplishes miracles, grants the discernment of spirits, assigns governance, inspires counsels, distributes and harmonizes every other charismatic gift.'

Dear Children, Pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit
Our Lady, the spouse of the Holy Spirit |
Dear children! Also today I am with you and I am looking at you and blessing you, and I am not losing hope that this world will change for the good and that peace will reign in the hearts of men. Joy will begin to reign in the world because you have opened yourselves to my call and to God’s love.
The Holy Spirit is changing a multitude of those who have said ‘yes’. Therefore I desire to say to you: thank you for having responded to my call. Medjugorje message, January 25, 2011
Dear children! Today I call you, through prayer and sacrifice, to prepare yourselves for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Little children, this is a time of grace and so, again, I call you to decide for God the Creator. Allow him to transform and change you.
May your heart be prepared to listen to, and live, everything which the Holy Spirit has in his plan for each of you. Little children, allow the Holy Spirit to lead you on the way of truth and salvation towards eternal life. Thank you for having responded to my call. Medjugorje message, May 25 1998
Dear children! I rejoice with you and in this time of grace I call you to spiritual renewal. Pray, little children, that the Holy Spirit may come to dwell in you in fullness, so that you may be able to witness in joy to all those who are far from faith.
Especially, little children, Pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that in the spirit of love, every day and in each situation, you may be closer to your fellow-man; and that in wisdom and love you may overcome every difficulty. I am with you and I intercede for each of you before Jesus. Thank you for having responded to my call. Medjugorje message, May 25, 2000
“Dear children; Today I call you to be born anew in prayer and through the Holy Spirit, to become a new people with my Son; a people who knows that if they have lost God, they have lost themselves; a people who knows that, with God, despite all sufferings and trials, they are secure and saved. I call you to gather into God’s family and to be strengthened with the Father’s strength. As individuals, my children, you cannot stop the evil that wants to begin to rule in this world and to destroy it. But, according to God’s will, all together, with my Son, you can change everything and heal the world. I call you to pray with all your heart for your shepherds, because my Son chose them. Thank you.” August 2, 2011

Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid, the Holy Spirit is with You.
Pope John Paul said at the beginning of his papacy in October 22, 1978: “Do not be afraid! Open wide the doors for Christ!”
Why do we fear the future? Let us have courage, COURAGE to stand firm and proclaim the greatness of the Lord to All.
Let us pray the rosary – As an individual and as a family. Let us look for God’s strength and power and not rely on your own strength.

A Meditation for Today
Today's Meditation:
Romans 7:18-25
“Who will deliver me from this mortal body?” (Romans 7:24)
How many times have we said it: “I am never doing that again! I am never drinking (or eating) too much; yelling at the kids; looking at pornography; swearing or lying or gossiping.” Each of us struggles with sin. With the best intentions and all the willpower we can summon, we set out, determined to do better. We long to master and be done with a particular stronghold—only to fall again.
We know what is good and what is sinful. Deep in our hearts, we want to please God. But how can we change if our most strenuous efforts aren’t enough? With Paul, we all cry out: “Who will deliver me?” (Romans 7:24). To know the answer, we must admit: “I can’t do it on my own.” This is the first verse of the glad shout that disarms the enemy. But it must be followed up by the chorus: “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (7:25).
Yes, thanks be to God! Even when you feel defeated yet again by the same old sins, know that Jesus has redeemed you. Even when you feel powerless against temptation, rejoice in your salvation. There may still be areas in your life that need to be conquered. There may still be attitudes that need to be corrected. But sin does not have the final say.- "You are still a child of God, chosen and beloved of the Father."
God sees your struggles. He knows your anxieties. He sees how hard you are trying, and he honors every effort you make. When you fall, he does not turn away. No, he comes closer, offering you his mercy and his healing. Hour by hour, minute by minute, he stands by you, pouring out grace and comfort.
So live as a victor today. It may not make logical sense to the world. But to anyone who has tasted the goodness of the Lord, it makes perfect sense. Turn to Jesus. Keep his victory in sight. Declare it: Jesus’ death is enough; there is no more condemnation; love has triumphed. Let that love sweep away any thought that you will never change. Turn away from self-condemnation and toward his unfailing love. Let him fill you up, and sin will slink away.
“Thanks be to God through our Lord Jesus Christ! Lord, you are my hope and my salvation!”
Psalm 119:66,68,76-77,93-94;

Medjugorje: Message from Our Lady, Queen of Peace, June 2nd, 2011
Uploaded by wise9470 on Jun 23, 2011
"Dear children; As I call you to prayer for those who have not come to know the love of God, if you were to look into your hearts you would comprehend that I am speaking about many of you. With an open heart, sincerely ask yourselves if you want the living God or do you want to eliminate Him and live as you want. Look around you, my children, and see where the world is going, the world that thinks of doing everything without the Father, and which wanders in the darkness of temptation.
I AM OFFERING TO YOU THE LIGHT OF TRUTH AND THE HOLY SPIRIT. According to God's plan I am with you to help you to have my Son, His Cross and Resurrection, triumph in your hearts. As a mother, I desire and pray for your unity with my Son and His works. I am with you; you decide. Thank you. "

Medjugorje: Souha’s most beautiful confession
Souha’s most beautiful confession. A group came from the Middle East to spend a few days in Medjugorje, wanting to make a holy pilgrimage. Among them was Souha, a married woman whose husband is a doctor. She came without him because he was working.
Souha had a secret that left her without peace. Soon after her arrival, she went to see a priest from her group and confided to him that she had an abortion. The child that she was expecting was diagnosed with Down’s syndrome, and she and her husband did not want him. They decided together to have him removed from the womb and had an abortion performed. Her heart was still restless however and Souha asked the priest, “It’s not a sin, is it?” The priest answered, “But yes, my daughter, it is a sin! A grave sin! You must go to confession!”
Souha was not convinced and she shut herself within her denial. Yet she asked the Blessed Mother for a sign to know whether she should confess this act.
In the evening, at the apparition of the Gospa on the hill with Ivan, Souha was with her group. As soon as the Blessed Mother arrived, Souha unexpectedly bent over with her nose on the ground. She remained like this for a while and when she came back up after the apparition, her friends saw her crying. She told them, “Please call a priest, I must go to confession right away!”
I do not know what happened to her during the apparition, her friends respected her secret, but Our Mother acted.
In tears, Souha made the most beautiful confession of her life. Yes, she touched the horror of sin and it made her cry. She accepted God’s mercy towards her. Her inner peace was at last restored. Now she is free! What a contrast on her face! What light! She witnesses to her friends that she feels a deep joy, as never before in her life.
In Medjugorje, some pilgrims groups have a fine tradition. The guide suggests that each pilgrim receives the responsibility of praying for a particular person of the group during the whole pilgrimage. Thus the first or second night, each one must draw from a little basket the name of another pilgrim. That evening, out of the 150 people in the group, who received the name of Souha and the call to pray for her? A young woman with Down’s syndrome!
That same night, Souha’s husband called, and after hearing his wife’s story, tells her, “You know, I am calling you because I find it strange that you are over there praying to God, while I am here performing abortions. It is not right! Today, I have decided not to that anymore.” He also was crying over the phone. The whole day, he had the feeling that something was happening to his wife and he was ready to take this giant step professionally. Souha could not believe her ears.
This happened last August. Now Souha, her husband and their children are living differently, they put God in the first place. They practice the sacraments and go to Mass almost everyday. They give testimonies. After this memorable pilgrimage, they were wondering how to make reparation for such a past when they suddenly received a call from an orphanage needing help. Sisters were asking them to care for an orphaned child. They saw this as the answer from God, they were grateful to Him and decided to do everything in their power for the child.
And what has become of the aborted baby? In Medjugorje, Mary says of these unborn children, “They are with me”. This child is certainly praying for his parents and for all his little companions who, today, are programmed never to see the sun.
I am asking myself the question: did the baby really have Down’s syndrome? For I see more and more examples of wrong diagnostics: many mothers decide to keep their child whatever the handicap, and often, the child is born perfectly normal. Bizarre! To be meditated!
But God is wonderful! For this family, He changed evil into good. Now hundreds of children (perhaps even thousands) will never be aborted by this doctor who now fights for life.
*“Dear children, tonight I invite you to pray in a special way for the unborn children. Pray especially for the mothers who kill their children. Dear children, I am sad because so many children are killed. Pray that there are no more such mothers in the world.” (To the Medjugorje Prayer group, 3- 03- 90)

Virgin Mary Statue Destroyed in Rome
VATICAN CITY—The Vatican has condemned Saturday’s violent clashes in central Rome including an attack by protesters on a church in which a crucifix and a statue of the Virgin Mary were destroyed.
Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said he “condemned the violence and the fact that a church was desecrated by some protesters who broke in and destroyed some images.” He referred to the clashes in Rome as “horrific.”
The 18th-century church of Santi Marcellino and Pietro is near St John Lateran square where much of Saturday’s violence occurred.
“When I came down, I saw the entrance door had been smashed in,” the church’s parish priest, Father Giuseppe Ciucci, was quoted by Italian media as saying.
“The Virgin Mary’s statue, which was at the entrance, had been taken away and I saw it had been thrown into the street and smashed,” he said.
“I went into the sacristy and I saw the door there was also destroyed. The large crucifix at the entrance had been vandalized,” he added.
Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb,Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

On Tuesday, October 4, 2011 we celebrated the feast of St. Francis, the founder of the Franciscan Order. The traditional and solemn service of Transitus – “Memoria Transitus” was held after the evening Holy Mass on Monday, at the White Dome of the church of St. James. Members of the Franciscan Youth, the Franciscan School Sisters and Franciscans from Medjugorje parish participated in this event, while choir of Medjugorje parish made celebration more solemn with their singing.
Numerous pilgrims who arrived in October, month of Our Lady, were also present and they came from the following countries: Korea, Brazil, Italy, Austria, Germany, Canada, Ireland, the United States, England, Lebanon, Romania, Australia, Slovakia, Belgium, Mexico, Argentina and Portugal. As the last August was the busiest month ever since we keep statistic record of all pilgrims who are coming to Medjugorje.
" September was the busiest September ever since the beginning of Our Lady’s apparitions, with more than 300,000 Holy Communions given to pilgrims."
Roberto Bignoli |
He spent all of his childhood in hospitals and institutions because his mom was single parent and he was a child with special needs. “I had very difficult life from the very beginning. I was surrounded with poverty, illness and I was raised in institutions. I also had many wrong decisions I made in my adolescent period, including false freedom and pleasures that we were trying to find in drugs and in liberal politics or in the world of spectacles. That made me lonely and empty. When I discovered faith, I was able to understand all of the mistakes and false ideologies that I had embraced in the past. My change and conversion happened thanks to Medjugorje. Our Lady touched my heart and slowly brought me to Jesus, and He changed me in the time that came afterwards.”
He also emphasised how he discovered the world of young people that he did not know before. Those were completely normal young people who were praying, adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and had joyfully been singing to the Lord. Happy 95th Birthday to Fr. Peter M. Rookey, October 12, 2011
Fr. Peter Mary Rookey |
Happy Birthday Father Rookey, and may Our Lord bless you with many more.
*MIRACLE PRAYER*
Lord Jesus, I come before you just as I am. I am sorry for my sins. I repent of my sins, please forgive me. In your name I forgive all others for what they have done against me. I renounce satan, the evil spirits and all their works. I give you my entire self, Lord Jesus, now and forever. I invite you into my life, Jesus. I accept you as my Lord, God and Saviour. Heal me, change me, strengthen me in body, soul and spirit.
Come, Lord Jesus, cover me with your precious blood, and fill me with your Holy Spirit. I Love You, Lord Jesus. I Praise You, Jesus. I Thank You, Jesus. I shall follow you every day of my life. Amen. Mary, my mother, Queen of Peace, St. Peregrine, the cancer saint, all you Angels and Saints, please help me. Amen.
*The healing priest, Father Peter Mary Rookey, O.S.M, received Christ´s Gift of Healing in 1948. Since then, thousands of healings have been reported worldwide. Witness letters, some with medical consensus, have been submitted to the International Compassion Ministry.
When asked about the healings, Father Rookey simply says, "I just do what HE told us to do and the people are delivered and healed. We are answering the last command of Jesus,´ . . . They shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they shall recover´ (Mk 16:18).
With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible´ (Mt 19:26)" - Father Peter Mary Rookey, O.S.M.

Jesus Speaks Strongly of Lifestyle Changes
DOCILITY, NOT HOSTILITY
"Teacher, in speaking this way You insult us too!" -Luke 11:45
Jesus speaks strongly of lifestyle changes in today's Gospel reading. He gives the Pharisees and lawyers a direct warning of the consequences of their hypocrisy and pride (Lk 11:42). The lawyers disregarded Jesus' loving and expert warning and claimed He was insulting them (Lk 11:45). After Jesus concluded His diagnosis and prescription, "the scribes and Pharisees began to manifest fierce hostility to Him" (Lk 11:53). His listeners did not heed His words.
St. Paul spoke strongly of lifestyle changes in his letter to the Romans. He warned of the natural and eternal consequences of the sinful lifestyles of idolatry (Rm 1:23), homosexual activity (Rm 1:24-27), and other acts of wickedness (Rm 1:29). St. Paul is also giving a loving diagnosis and prescription. Try reading Romans 1:18-32 in the average college classroom, corporate workplace, or other "enlightened" setting and see whether the reaction of your hearers is docility or "fierce hostility." Many would think they were being insulted (see Lk 11:45) rather than being warned in love.
If your doctor told you to change your lifestyle or die, you would probably act with docility and not think you were being insulted. Accordingly, repent of any hostility to Doctor Jesus. Repent of not being docile to Him. He is Almighty God, the ultimate authority. Let Him tell you anything. Then "do whatever He tells you" (Jn 2:5).
Father, help me to daily sit at Your feet (Lk 10:38-42), hear Your words, and act on them (Jas 1:22).
"Do you not know that God's kindness is an invitation to you to repent?" -Rm 2:4

Our Lady calls us to be Joyful witnesses
Dear children! I call you, that this time be for all of you, a time of witnessing. You, who live in the love of God and have experienced His gifts, witness them with your words and life that they may be for the joy and encouragement to others in faith. I am with you and incessantly intercede before God for all of you that your faith may always be alive and joyful, and in the love of God. Thank you for having responded to my call." (September 27, 2011)
Comment--Our Lady calls us to be witnesses. Every one of us should become a witness. Faith provides us with strength to be witnesses of Jesus in this world. It is precisely thanks to the testimony of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the apostles and martyrs of the first Church that we have been given the legacy of faith in the Triune God.
Comment--Our Lady is asking us all to find ways to witness to our faith, to Jesus and His love, and to the love of our Mother as well. We have only to listen in our hearts and use our heads we will all find a way to witness to the love of God!
May our faith always be alive and joyful!!
In Jesus and Mary!

Apparition of Our Lady to Mirjana of October 2, 2011
“Dear children; Also today my motherly heart calls you to prayer, to your personal relationship with God the Father, to the joy of prayer in Him. God the Father is not far away from you and He is not unknown to you. He revealed Himself to you through my Son and gave you Life that is my Son. Therefore, my children, do not give in to temptations that want to separate you from God the Father. Pray! Do not attempt to have families and societies without Him. Pray! Pray that your hearts may be flooded by the goodness which comes only from my Son, Who is sincere goodness. Only hearts filled with goodness can comprehend and accept God the Father. I will continue to lead you. In a special way I implore you not to judge your shepherds. My children, are you forgetting that God the Father called them? Pray! Thank you.”

Worldwide Children's Eucharistic Holy Hour
"Thousands of Youngsters to Offer Mary a Golden Rose"
ST. PAUL, Minnesota, SEPT. 27, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Thousands of children will gather at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., next month to offer Our Lady a "Golden Rose" and to pray before the Holy Eucharist.
The youngsters will represent children from 140 nations who will participate Oct. 7 in the 9th annual Worldwide Children's Eucharistic Holy Hour, which will be broadcast live around the world on Eternal World Television Network (EWTN), and translated for Spanish-speaking countries.
The "Holy Hour unites children around the world before the Blessed Sacrament to console the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus and to pray for the families of the world, a mission entrusted to them by Blessed John Paul II in his Christmas Letter to the World's Children, in 1994, at the close of the International Year of the Family."
Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans will preside at the main event in the basilica, which is co-sponsored by Children of the Eucharist, the children's program of the World Apostolate of Fatima, and the Holy Childhood Association.
A growing number of dioceses, parishes and schools on every continent are participating in the event every year, according to Connie Schneider, founder and international chairwoman.
She added, "This global Holy Hour gathers our children before the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus to console him, as requested by the Angel of Peace at Fatima, and to pray for our own families and the families of the world."

Send Your Angel to Mass
Send Your Angel to Mass
*This very special prayer was written by a devout woman named Ruth Merz from Cincinnati, Ohio. Ruth was the mother of eight children who was diagnosed with cancer, which eventually and sadly claimed her life. Unable to attend mass because of her illness, she wrote this wonderful prayer. We hope that her words will convey special meaning to those who are ill and to their friends and families who care for them. Please feel free to share it with anyone that you feel might benefit from it.
SEND YOUR ANGEL TO MASS:
O’ Holy angel at my side Go to church for me Kneel in my place at Holy Mass Where I desire to be. At offertory in my stead Take all I am and own And place it as a sacrifice Upon the Altar throne. At Holy Consecration bell, Adore with Seraph’s love My Jesus hidden in the Host Come down from Heaven above. There pray for those I dearly love And those that cause me grief That Jesus’ blood may cleanse all hearts Give suffering souls relief. That when the priest Communion takes Then bring my Lord to me That His sweet heart may rest in mine And I His temple be. Pray that the sacrifice divine May all man’s sin efface Then bring me Jesus’ blessing home The pledge of every grace. Amen

Between the folds of her mantle: The sharing Medjugorje website
http://betweenthefoldsofhermantle.com/
Welcome
Please take time to view several talks and testimonies. I wish to share with you, some of my experiences while on pilgrimage to Medjugorje.
Our Lady desires to help you come back to God. She always leads us to her son Jesus who is so merciful and forgiving. Seek to find a place between the folds of Her mantle, where you will sense Her care and protection.
Thanks for visiting,
Mike
In the Beginning
02/10/2011 17:03:38: In the beginning God already decided that He would create us and He knew that we would rebel against Him. He knew this before the creation of the world and He knew that we would need someone to save us. That someone is His only eternal Son Jesus, who then became a man to die on the cross for us as God intended.
THE CROSS is the very center of God's glorious plan. The cross wasn't some "Plan B" to fix what went wrong at the Garden. Before time began, before the creation of the whole universe, before the creation of all the living beings in both physical and spiritual world, God has already decided to display His glory through the cross as part of His perfect and eternal plan.
The God who created the plants, the animals, the seas, the planets, the gravity and countless stars in the sky is the very same God who was despised, spat upon, slapped, rejected and was crucified on the cross by His own creations. And He was willing to go through all these because He simply loves us. The path that He took to go to the cross is the only way to pay the demand of justice. It is the only way for fallen mankind to be redeemed and to be restored back to Himself.
And what's even more mind-boggling than the vastness of the universe and the countless stars out there is the fact that its Creator came down into this world to redeem wretched sinners such as you and I. I just can't comprehend such love.
Its is so...INDESCRIBABLE! (John 3:16) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Mirjana: Each Should Ask If He Is Worthy
Mirjana Dragicvic Soldo |
by Jakoh Marschner
“Are you aware, brothers, that the Mother of God was with us? Each of us should ask himself: Are you worthy of this?”, Medjugorje visionary Mirjana Dragicevic-Soldo said after today’s apparition when the Virgin Mary warned of creating families and societies that are not resting on God.
In an unusual personal commentary immediately after her apparition on October 2, Medjugorje visionary Mirjana Dragicevic-Soldo urged everyone to consider if he is worthy of the Virgin Mary’s presence on earth.
“I have never said anything before, but are you aware, brothers, that the Mother of God was with us? Each of us should ask himself: ‘Are you worthy of this?’ I am saying this because it is difficult for me to see her in pain, because each of us is seeking a miracle, but does not want to work a miracle in himself”, Mirjana said.
In her message given during the apparition, the Virgin Mary warns of living life without God. While this, to itself, is the core theme of the apparitions, on Sunday she also took this warning to include families and whole societies. The message reads in its entirety:
“Dear children! Also today my motherly heart calls you to prayer, to your personal relationship with God the Father, to the joy of prayer in Him. God the Father is not far away from you and He is not unknown to you. He revealed Himself to you through my Son and gave you Life that is my Son. Television evangelist Pat Robertson has made some controversial comments in the past, and he’s done it again with his recent discussion about the legitimacy of divorce when a spouse has Alzheimer’s disease.
The question came up in Robertson’s televised program, “The 700 Club,” during which a caller described a friend whose wife was suffering from severe dementia and no longer recognized him. In addressing the marital obligations of the husband, Robertson said, “I hate Alzheimer’s. It is one of the most awful things, because here’s the loved one – this woman or man that you have loved for 20, 30, 40 years, and suddenly that person is gone . . . I know it sounds cruel, but if he’s going to do something, he should divorce her and start all over again, but to make sure she has custodial care, somebody looking after her.”
Robertson acknowledged that marriage vows refer to “until death do us part” but reasoned that Alzheimer’s is a “kind of death.”
Other evangelical leaders reacted quickly and strongly to Robertson’s surprising theory. “This is more than an embarrassment,” said Russell D. Moore of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. “This is more than cruelty. This is a repudiation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
A similar situation has been described by CBS news correspondent Barry Petersen in his book, “Jan’s Story.” There Petersen tells how Alzheimer’s afflicted his wife and affected his life until, finally, he placed her in an assisted living facility and then began a relationship with another woman.
He explains his agonizing decision this way: “It ripped at my soul. This woman I had wooed and won had gone away. People who knew us would use one word to describe us, ‘BarryandJan’ because we so loved being together. Now she was adrift somewhere else. And there was guilt. Who cannot weep when the one you love disappears? Who cannot feel the rage I felt, asking myself: Who had the right to take that away?”
Petersen explained that he struggled being by himself, all alone, “finding solitary friendship in ever more late-night alcohol.” He didn’t want to live alone. He couldn’t. “Is it still a marriage if only one person is mentally present?” He wondered.
Now, the personal dynamics and moral questions posed by these real-life situations are difficult to sort out. Certainly it’s important that we refrain from harsh personal judgments about those who feel imprisoned by this hopeless situation. Their choices are painful. But what about the objective morality of these situations? And what about those pesky marriage vows made freely before God and His Church?
On one hand, the situations described by Robertson’s caller and Barry Petersen present an enormously difficult human challenge. And unless you’ve been personally involved in the situation – and I haven’t – it’s hard to imagine the profound sadness, the debilitating anger and sense of hopelessness a care-giver faces every single day when trying to break through the fog that envelopes a loved one afflicted by this awful illness. Making the right decisions requires wisdom and courage.
Yet, in reflecting on this situation, I can’t help but hear the refrain of the traditional marriage vows: “I take you to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”
“In sickness and in health, until death do us part.” I find no exception here for Alzheimer’s. And while Alzheimer’s is a horrible disease that burdens patients and care-givers alike, there are other illnesses and situations that test the strength of marriage vows as well.
What do we say to the husband whose wife suffers a stoke and is incapacitated, unable to move, unable to speak for many years, perhaps decades? And what options can we offer the wife whose husband is afflicted with mental illness causing repeated suffering and embarrassment for the whole family? Are these folks free to place their spouse in a facility, provide for their care and move on to other sexual relationships simply because their spouse had changed, and because like Barry Petersen they can’t stand to live alone?
There are no easy answers, are there?
The traditional “Exhortation before Marriage” used in Catholic ceremonies for many years explains what is required of spouses who enter into the marriage covenant. Consider these beautiful words, addressed to the bride and groom: “Whatever sacrifices you may hereafter be required to make to preserve this mutual life, always make them generously. Sacrifice is usually difficult and irksome. Only love can make it easy, and perfect love can make it a joy. We are willing to give in proportion as we love. And when love is perfect, the sacrifice is complete.”
At this time of the year we recognize and salute couples who are celebrating special wedding anniversaries – 25, 40, 50, 60 years or more. I don’t know, of course, what each of these couples has experienced in their lives. Perhaps they’ve avoided tragic, debilitating situations. God bless them for that.
But, I suspect that most couples have experienced their share of daily challenges and maybe even life-changing turmoil – the illness of a loved one, a death of a child, addictions to drugs, alcohol or gambling, financial insecurity, the betrayal of their children. These couples surely know what sacrifice is all about. On their anniversaries we celebrate the fact that they’ve survived the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” Shakespeare described. They’ve been true to their vows. They’ve had the courage to be faithful.
