March 25, 2017 Message from Our Lady of Medjugorje:

"Dear children! In this time of grace, I am calling all of you to open your hearts to God's mercy, to begin a new life through prayer, penance and a decision for holiness. This time of spring moves you to a new life, to a renewal, in your thoughts and hearts. Therefore, little children, I am with you to help you to say 'yes' to God and to God's commandments with resoluteness. You are not alone; I am with you through the grace which the Most High gives me for you and your descendants. Thank you for having responded to my call." (March 25, 2017)

Prayers Answered

Prayers Answered for a Deathbed Conversion

I believe my prayers contributed to a deathbed conversion. There were surely other prayers at work, but mine were in the mix. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working, (James 5:16).

A Catholic I knew had a relative across the country that had been fighting cancer for a long time before she slipped into a coma. Doctors did not expect the woman, whom I’ll call Barbara, to come out of it. Anyone who knew Barbara, knew of her passionate liberal views especially about advocating abortion. She herself had and abortion many years earlier.
Although Barbara was Catholic, it was often a sordid relationship she had with the Church, frequently disparaging it. The years of cancer had done nothing to loosen Barbara’s liberal opinions.
She needs Last Rites, I thought when I learned about Barbara’s situation. Last Rites prepare Catholics for death with the sacraments of ConfessionHoly Communion, and the Anointing of the SickAll but one of Barbara’s adult children had left the Church, however, and the one Catholic lived far away. The idea of getting a priest to visit Barbara in the hospital was not something her nearby children or her sort of-Catholic husband would arrange. And besides, a woman in a coma cannot go to Confession.
I began praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for Barbara, every day, and convinced her relative to join me. I knew from reading St. Faustina’s Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul, that it was powerful prayer for conversion and to prepare people for death.
During St. Faustina’s revelations in the 1930s, Jesus appeared and asked her to pray theChaplet of The Divine Mercy for sinners and the dying, saying:
“Pray as much as you can for the dying. By your entreaties, obtain for them trust in My mercy, because they have most need of trust, and have it the least. Be assured that the grace of eternal salvation for certain souls in their final moment depends on your prayer. You know the whole abyss of My mercy, so draw upon it for yourself and especially for poor sinners. Sooner would heaven and earth turn into nothingness than would My mercy not embrace a trusting soul." (Diary of St. Faustina, 1777)
Jesus told her: "My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given to you. It pleases Me to grant everything they ask of Me by saying the chaplet. ... Write that when they say this chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the merciful Savior," (Diary, 1541).
St. Faustina wrote of a time she was praying for a dying man:  "'My daughter, help Me to save a certain dying sinner. Say the chaplet that I have taught you for him.' When I began to say the chaplet, I saw the man dying in the midst of terrible torment and struggle. His Guardian Angel was defending him, but he was, as it were, powerless against the enormity of the soul's misery. A multitude of devils was waiting for the soul. But while I was saying the chaplet, I saw Jesus just as He is depicted in the image. The rays which issued from Jesus' Heart enveloped the sick man, and the powers of darkness fled in panic. The sick man peacefully breathed his last. When I came to myself, I understood how very important the chaplet was for the dying. It appeases the anger of God" (Diary, 1565).
After a couple of weeks of praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for Barbara, I learned that she had unexpectedly came out of her coma and was coherent for several days. Her children from near and far were able to gather around her and through very circumstantial events, (too complicated to explain here) a priest came by and gave her Last Rites. Barbara had spent a long time with the priest.
Later, she shared with her Catholic child, that many of her opinions were now drastically changed.  A few days later, Barbara passed away.  The family had a beautiful Catholic funeral.  Her husband, who lived another 7 years, became a daily communicant and prayed the rosary daily.

Dear Family of Mary!

March 18, 2017 Message from Our Lady of Medjugorje through Mirjana Soldo:

"Dear children! My motherly desire is for your hearts to be filled with peace, and for your souls to be pure so that in the presence of my Son you could see His face. Because, my children, as a mother I know that you thirst for consolation, hope and protection. You, my children, consciously and unconsciously are seeking my Son. I also, as I passed the time on earth, rejoiced, suffered and patiently endured pains, until my Son, in all His glory, removed them. And that is why I am saying to my Son: help them always. You, my children, with true love, illuminate the darkness of selfishness which all the more envelopes my children. Be generous. May both your hands and heart always be open. Do not be afraid. Abandon yourselves to my Son with trust and hope. As you look towards Him, live life with love. To love means to give oneself, to endure, and never to judge. To love means to live the words of my Son. My children, as a mother I am speaking to you: only true love leads to eternal happiness. Thank you."

Dear Family of Mary!

Dear children, With motherly love I am coming to help you to have more love and that means more faith. I am coming to help you to live with love the words of my Son, so that the world would be different. Therefore, apostles of my love, I am gathering you around myself. Look at me with the heart, speak to me as to a mother about your pains, sufferings and your joys. Ask me to pray to my Son for you. My Son is merciful and just. My motherly heart would desire for you also to be like that. My motherly heart would desire that you, apostles of my love, speak of my Son and of me to all those around you with your life; so that the world would be different; that simplicity and purity would return; that faith and hope would return. Therefore, my children, pray, pray, pray with the heart, pray with love, pray with good works. Pray that everyone would come to know my Son, so that the world would change, that the world would be saved. With love live the words of my Son. Do not judge, instead love one another so that my heart could triumph. Thank you. (March 2, 2017)
I want to share the conversion account of a pilgrim in Medjugorje named Joe Campo. He gave his testimony along with Fr. Glen Sudano in Fruit Show 171. I was watching their testimonies on the channel today, and was mesmerized. But Joe Campo has a beautiful conversion testimony that happened through Our Lady of Medjugorje. Listen to his words:

When Joe was in Medjugorje for the first time, he experienced something special:

I fell asleep in the afternoon and I missed the apparition that was at about 6:45 pm at that time. And it was in the choir loft. I had missed that. And I woke up and I said, "Just like me to miss the apparition! I come all the way here and I miss the apparition." And I wasn't too happy with myself. But some time later I went into the kitchen and I looked out the window and I could see that there were people - actually there were lights - going up the mountain. There were thousands of lights going up. So I asked the people in the kitchen what is going on?

They said, "Well there is a special apparition tonight. You didn't hear about it?" And I said, "No, I was sleeping!" So I immediately got up and got my flash light and I followed the crowd right through the vineyards, and I made it to the base of the mountain rather quickly. Then I started to climb.

It was already pretty late at that time. It was probably 9:30 or quarter to 10. And I started to climb the mountain and I literally flew up the mountain. Now I was climbing over rocks. People were singing in all these different languages. It was very inspiring. But I literally flew up the mountain. And when I got to the top of the mountain I asked someone in English, "Where are the visionaries?" I knew I was at the top, and there were thousands of people all over the place. And they said, "You're standing with them." And I looked and I realized that I was standing with the visionaries! So I took a seat close by, I just backed up a little bit. I found it very inspiring. You can hear singing in all the different languages. And you can hear people praying the Rosary in all different languages. And again, I was very inspired by all of this.

And at 11:00 o'clock at night we heard everybody go, "Shhhh Shhh!" She's arriving. And the visionaries were already down. And I am telling you that at 11:00 at night with all those people, at the moment she appeared there was complete silence. Complete silence. There was no more singing. There were no more crickets. There was no more anything. Just silence.

And I watched the visionaries, and all of a sudden something overwhelming happened to me. Some thoughts came into my head, and I was experiencing conversion. And I didn't know what a conversion experience was, quite frankly. And I just put my head down and I started to cry. And I was probably crying for about 20 minutes.

Some of the reasons I was crying I knew, but others I didn't. But at the same time I felt a tremendous amount of peace. A tremendous amount of joy. And I think I felt love for the first time...real love...real love.

Before I came to Medjugorje I was very much into the world. I had my own company. Money was very important to me. Material things were very important to me. I was always a true believer in God, but I didn't go to church!! I was always a true believer in God, but I didn't follow the Ten Commandments. I believed in God, that is all there was to it. I always knew there was a God and I knew I wasn't Him. But did I follow Him, no.

But one of the things I learned during my conversion experience when Our Lady appeared, was that everything I learned about the Catholic Church was true! It was the truth! And I had been searching for the truth my whole life. And it was answered right there. I was completely changed at that moment.

And although I was crying at that moment, so people were saying, "Are you OK?", I was saying "I've never been better!!" This is great. These two emotions going on at the same time. And I also felt a tremendous amount of sorrow for my sins, and I really knew what they were for the first time. I wasn't happy with myself, and I knew I had to change. And I also knew I was being given the opportunity to change. And even in all of my sinfulness I also knew that God forgave me. And I also knew that I didn't deserve it.

All this information was overwhelming. And I also knew that this wasn't just about me. I knew that I had to change but I also knew that this was big. This wasn't just about me, or New York, or Medjugorje. This was big! This was about the planet, the entire world. And I really felt humbled that Our Lady would come to me.

(Rosie asked him; You could feel that individual attention and love from Our Lady, but also know it was worldwide.)

Yes, at the same time. I had heard people ask, do you have a personal relationship with Christ. I thought that was ridiculous. But I did have that relationship now. It wasn't out of fear. He loved me. He loved me in my sinfulness, and I was given the chance, the opportunity to become a better person. And I wanted to take that opportunity.

I believe that Joe is right, that what he experienced was indeed for him personally, but that it is also part of a plan to change the world that Our Lady is enacting in Medjugorje. I think he is right. This is big. Very, very big. Our Lady is with us to change the world!!

We are in the middle of Lent, and Lent is all about conversion. Thank you, Joe, for sharing your conversion experience. May we all encounter Our Lady this Lent and be changed!!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

PS.  Today, a very helpful article/interview was published by Aleteia.  Archbishop Henryl Hoser spoke to them about his assignment as special envoy to Medjugorje by the Holy Father, Pope Francis.  Here is the link to his beautiful interview:

PPS.  We are approaching the Annunciation of the Lord!  Somehow I think it is very important this year.  As a preparation, maybe we could pray the words of the Annunciation from Luke's Gospel ( Luke 1: 26-38) every day until the 25th.  Just an idea!!

Dear Children of Medjugorje

From the Desk of Sr. Emmanuel Maillard

March 15, 2017

Dear Children of Medjugorje, praised be Jesus and Mary!

1.  On March 2, 2017, Mirjana received her monthly apparition at the Blue Cross.

After the apparition, she shared with us the following message from Our Lady:

"Dear children, with motherly love I am coming to help you to have more love and that means more faith. I am coming to help you to live with love the words of my Son, so that the world would be different. Therefore, apostles of my love, I am gathering you around myself. Thank you."

Don't forget! Mirjana's birthday is March 18th, and, as usual, she will receive an apparition on that day.

2. What I Learned in Egypt

Last month I had the joy of being able to return to Egypt. Many had told me: "Don't go, it's dangerous!" But where is the danger these days? Isn't there just as much danger in Paris, Nice, or Brussels, where we had bombings lately? The real danger is not being where God calls us!

In her March 2nd message, Mary told us twice that she comes to help us. That reminds me of what I learned while visiting a small church hidden in the narrow, crowded streets, in the oldest part of Cairo. That Church is where one of the three icons, of the Blessed Virgin Mary, painted by the Apostle Luke, is kept. This icon of the Blessed Mother is called "El Ezbaweya". (Two other paintings of St. Luke are located in Rome, and Jerusalem.)

This is a miraculous icon. Many Christians and non-Christians come here to honor the Mother of God who is shown with the child Jesus. Some spend hours in front of her, seated on the floor, mumbling a mix of praise and supplications. Among the many miracles that have occurred in this place, one of them, narrated by the Coptic priest in charge of this shrine, really touched me.

In the 1940s, during World War II, a woman of Greek nationality came to Cairo, and for 12 days she stood at the feet of the Blessed Virgin, tearfully praying and pleading with her. Every day, she would make a new offering. What happened was that her son had joined the British army and was then sent to Lebanon. He sent letters to his mother regularly, but in his latest letter he had told her that he was sick. After that...she received not one word from him! Complete silence! She was not receiving any more news, so that this poor mother was afraid that something bad had happened to her son, perhaps even that he had died. So she had come from very far to implore the assistance of El Ezbaweya, begging her to look after her son over there in Lebanon, to keep him healthy and bring him back.

One day, the priest found her very early in the morning standing in front of the door of the Church, radiant with joy. She told him that she had received a letter from her son. He thanked his mother saying: "Mom, thank you for the lady you sent me! I was very sick, but this lady came to me and she brought me some medicine. She told me: 'Your mother sent me to you!' The medication she brought me is what healed me. I took it and I am healed!' I asked her to tell me her name, and she said: 'My name is El Ezbaweya'." (Her son did not know this name at all).

The priest concluded: "The Lady El Ezbaweya has replied to the prayers, the tears and the praises of a mother!"

3. Don't forget St. Joseph! On March 19th, we will joyfully celebrate him!
Those who have not yet started the Novena, and wish to, will have to "train-hop" so to speak. Meaning that you can still hop on the train of the novena and end it after St. Joseph's feast day.

Following in the footsteps of the Holy Family in Egypt makes us realize how this man, chosen by God, was able to take care of his family under the worst possible conditions! As political refugees under constant threat from Herod's spies, despised by people because of their poverty, Joseph, Mary and Jesus owe their survival to Providence alone! Their unshakable confidence in God's purposes and their mutual love enabled them to undergo this trial and grow stronger because of it. What a magnificent example for us, whose families are bombarded as never before by the destroyer!

Indeed, though Satan is always eager to subvert and break what God created from the beginning, namely the holy nest of life that is the family, nevertheless the Creator is all the more present to pour out his special graces to all families that really trust in Him! The sacrament of marriage is incomparably rich, because it places the family under the blessing of God. In our day, who wouldn't want to be covered by the blessing of God? Of course, if you asked for such a blessing, you cannot at the same time act in a way that displeases Him. The world is pushing us to step on the Word of God, which is life because it is God, but St. Joseph will help us to keep it and treasure it!

Among the praises addressed to St. Joseph in his litany (see our site), there is one that we should mention now more than ever before, "Joseph most chaste." Just recently we have seen a horrible campaign to pervert children through pornography, cleverly imposed by the Ministry of Education and the media. The Lord Jesus, though He is so merciful, spoke clearly against those who would scandalize a child (see PS 1). Woe unto us! Destroying the innocence of children is criminal. Our entire future will be seriously disordered and our children's potential for affection very wounded, even deviated. God can repair everything with much prayer and care but so many intimate sufferings could be avoided if only we would see the violence of pornography. St. Joseph, please protect the children!

Saint Joseph, my tender father,
I place myself forever under your protection.
Consider me as your child and protect me from all sin.
I throw myself into your arms so that you may carry me on the way of holiness.

(A song composed in French, used for our morning prayer in Medjugorje)
4. Living Lent, Easter Is Next Month!

For the weeks of lent that we still have to live, here are three ideas to make them more fruitful:

-      Every time I am tempted to grab my cell phone to call someone, I will ask myself, "Is it really necessary?" If I can avoid this call, I will replace it with a short prayer calling for the blessing of God upon that person and the entire world. Decide to never judge.

-      I will make the sign of the Cross over me - the right way - as Mary taught it to St. Bernadette in Lourdes, during the first apparition on February 11, 1858. On that day Bernadette just could not make the sign of the Cross. Then, Our Lady made, in front her her, a VERY wide and slow movement from the forehead to the belly button across the chest from left to right. From that day on, Bernadette made the sign of the Cross over herself with great reverence and piety. Actually, by this sign, we invoke God three times holy. The exchange of love between the three persons of the Trinity begins working within us. The sign of the Cross well made, with the heart, has the power of exorcism! It reminds the enemy how and by whom he has been defeated forever: Jesus on the Cross. One of my assistants was converted just by making the sign of the Cross one day. In one moment, she believed in God and started changing her life. For her, it was like an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

-      Every day, at home, read some verses from the Bible, especially the text of the daily Mass, even if you went to daily Mass. Pick up one word that strikes you the most, repeat it, chew on it, ponder it, be nurtured by it throughout the day. Then share it with your family or friends or neighbors, helping others to learn from the Word of God, which is light unto our steps.

Archbishop Henryk Hoser to Aleteia: We should not be worried about Medjugorje!

I wish to ask Aleteia readers to pray for the success of my mission

“If Marian devotion has flourished in Medjugorje, if such multitudes arrive there, it is therefore a place where veneration will continue, since Our Lady can be venerated everywhere, especially in those locations where this veneration is so fruitful, as we hear it has been from so many testimonies.”
This is the affirmation offered to Aleteia from Archbishop Henryk Hoser, a special envoy sent by Pope Francis to investigate the situation surrounding the reported Marian apparitions in Medjugorje, a small town in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, close to the border with Croatia.

I wish to ask Aleteia readers to pray for the success of my mission in Medjugorje, for coming as close as possible to objective truth and for obtaining very good, concrete results, the archbishop tells our readers.
Pope Francis appointed the archbishop in February to be the Holy See’s special envoy to the site, where millions of pilgrims have visited since the apparitions were said to begin, in 1981.
The archbishop told Aleteia some of the details of his mission.
Konrad Sawicki: When will Your Excellency leave for Medjugorje?
Archbishop Hoser: I have recently heard that I am allegedly there and that I have been miraculously healed by the Holy Virgin Mary… Joking aside, my first visit to Medjugorje, an orientation one, will start at the end of March.
I will meet first with the Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Archbishop of Sarajevo. Then, naturally, I will meet with the local Bishop of Mostar and the Franciscan friars who work in the shrine. First of all, however, I will listen intently to different opinions and examine the local pastoral situation.
This will be Your Excellency’s first visit to the shrine. Yet this is not going to be Your Excellency’s first special mission, is it?
It is true I have never visited Medjugorje myself, but a lot of the faithful from my Diocese of Warsaw-Praga go there and I am well-familiar with their accounts.
It is also true that this is not going to be my first mission as a special envoy of the pope. I have so far held three such missions. Two apostolic visitations were short; I have spent two weeks in Togo and Benin, respectively. I looked into the questions of seminaries there. The third mission was long; I spent one and a half years in Rwanda immediately after the genocide. This experience gives me courage to embark on another visitation, to Medjugorje.
As to the Marian apparitions in Medjugorje and their authenticity, let us clarify the current situation for our readers.
In 2010 the Holy See appointed a special doctrinal commission led by His Eminence Cardinal Camillo Ruini. In 2014 the commission concluded its operation and submitted its conclusions to the Holy Father. He subsequently forwarded the case to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. To date, the Congregation has not adopted its final position.
Your Excellency’s mission concerns not only the apparitions themselves; it is pastoral in character. However, not everyone understands why a Polish archbishop received a special mission from Francis. One website announced that Your Excellency is to “examine the conflict concerning Marian apparitions.”
The mission entrusted to me is auxiliary to what the doctrinal commission has accomplished. Every year the shrine is visited by 2 to 2.5 million pilgrims from across the world. It has become a charismatic place. The fact that Medjugorje is visited by so many faithful, who are no doubt spiritually enriched there, is something to be borne in mind.
A demand for pastoral care in this place is huge. Imagine – there are 50 confessionals on the premises. The problem is that often there are not enough confessors speaking different languages.
My mission, as has been stipulated in the communiqué released by the Holy See, is to closely examine the local pastoral situation, in particular the needs of the pilgrims. I am also supposed to indicate possible new pastoral initiatives. The underlying objective is to enhance pastoral outreach and to better coordinate local pastoral actions.
After the nomination of the special envoy and the publication of aletter by the local bishop, which contests the authenticity of the apparitions, many faithful around the world are concerned. Was their pilgrimage to no avail? Were their prayers untrue? – they ask. Could Your Excellency as a papal pastoral envoy explain the current situation to them and dispel their worries?
We should by no means worry! The Church has not yet spoken on the authenticity of the apparitions. We should calmly wait for the final position. This is by no means the first situation when the Church is slow to take a decision, especially given that the form of the Marian apparitions in Medjugorje significantly differs from that of earlier well-known apparitions.
Besides, this issue will not change anything in the teaching of the Church concerning Marian veneration. If Marian devotion has flourished in Medjugorje, if such multitudes arrive there, it is therefore a place where veneration will continue, since Our Lady can be venerated everywhere, especially in those locations where this veneration is so fruitful, as we hear it has been from so many testimonies.
The Holy Father is aware of it and therefore would like to examine not only the pastoral situation in Medjugorje, but also, if necessary, find methods of improving the pastoral care provided to the pilgrims in this place, so strongly dedicated to Our Lady.
Let me take this opportunity to greet Your Excellency on behalf of the editors and readers of Aleteia and wish you a complete and fast recovery. Would Your Excellency like to address our staff and readers?
I would like to ask the Aleteia readers to pray for the success of my mission in Medjugorje. I embark on this mission on behalf of the Church, entrusted to me by the Holy Father. I want this mission to come closest to objective truth and to produce very good and concrete results.
I am an emissary of the Church but the Church should pray for me, as She prayed at one time for St. Peter and St. Paul. After all, prayer is the driving force of our actions in the Church, both the tangible and the invisible ones.
Henryk Hoser, Bishop of the Diocese of Warsaw-Praga, was born in 1942 in Warsaw. A graduate of a university school of medicine, in 1968 he entered the Society of Catholic Apostolate (the Pallottines). Having obtained degrees in philosophy and theology and having been ordained to the priesthood, he left for Paris and then for a mission to Rwanda (1975–1996). In 1978 he established a Medical and Social Centre in Kigali and led it for 17 years. He also set up the Family Formation Center (Action Familiale). After the civil war in Rwanda, the Holy See appointed him apostolic visitor in Rwanda. In 2005 John Paul II appointed him archbishop and auxiliary secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and Chairman of the Pontifical Missionary Works. In 2008 Benedict XVI named him Bishop of the Diocese of Warsaw-Praga. On 11 February 2017 Pope Francis nominated him a special envoy of the Holy See to Medjugorje. At the beginning of 2017 Archbishop Hoser revealed that he is suffering from malaria.

Dear Family of Mary

St. Frances of Rome

Dear Family of Mary!

Our Lady loves God with her whole heart, completely. She is calling us to also have a pure and total love for God. This is everything for her. She told us:

"Dear children, Today I look in your hearts and looking at them my heart seizes with pain. My children! I desire from you unconditional, pure love for God. You will know that you are on the right path when with your body you are on the earth, and with your soul you are always with God. Through this unconditional and pure love, you will see my Son in every person. You will feel in union with God. As a Mother I will be happy because I will have your holy and unified hearts. My children, I will have your salvation. Thank you." (August 2, 2007)

In her Dairy, St. Faustina wrote about such love for God in this way:

Pure love is capable of great deeds, and it is not broken by difficulty or adversity. As it remains strong in the midst of great difficulties, so too it perseveres in the toilsome and drab life of each day. It knows that only one thing is needed to please God: to do even the smallest things out of great love-love, and always love.

Pure love never errs. Its light is strangely plentiful. It will not do anything that might displease God. It is ingenious at doing what is more pleasing to God, and no one will equal it. It is happy when it can empty itself and burn like a pure offering. The more it gives of itself, the happier it is. But also, no one can sense dangers from afar as can love; it knows how to unmask and also knows with whom it has to deal. (Diary, 140)

Perhaps this Lent we can pray for the grace to love God completely, totally, purely, and unconditionally. Such love is the right response to the Great Commandment as Jesus spoke of it in Matthew:

And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him. "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.

And a second is like it, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22: 35-40)

With all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our mind, let us love the Lord!! Then we will be able to love our neighbor as ourself.

Dear Family of Mary!

Message from Our Lady of Medjugorje, given through Mirjana today:

Dear children! With motherly love I am coming to help you to have more love and that means more faith.
